Civilization. The island of the day before
The Moscow-born artist Vasily Klyukin presents with his show “Civilization. The Island of the Day Before” a condensed view of the universe at the Bank Austria Kunstforum (curated by A. Avramut).Klyukin works with polycarbonate and steel to design sculptures based on numerical data and coordinates. He reflects on the collective act of human kind and it’s likely dystopian outcome. Klyukin’s figures are inspired by the look and feel of burnt forests, as well as pulsating natural landscapes and the exploding colorfulness of digital screens.“Civilization. The Island of the Day Before” is a journey through the Anthropocene – from beginning to end. At the core of Klyukin’s universe is human ratio – both causa prima and central disruptive element. Just as in Umberto Eco’s eponymous book, humanity – the protagonist of the work, is in search of the ultimate key for its survival, looking in the wrong direction, towards the “island of the day before”.
