Downtown Saskatoon Military Memorials
I respectfully acknowledge that I am situated on Treaty 6 territory, traditional lands of the First Nations and Métis people. This Jane’s Walk is an approximately 30 to 40 minute walk in downtown Saskatoon that visits four military memorials. I’m Dave, and I will be leading this walk. I am grateful to the Local History Room of the Saskatoon Public Library for providing the historical photographs that illustrate this walk. War memorials are a multi-faceted topic that generate a lot of debate. Sean Graham writes “From statues to the naming of buildings to a nation’s founding principles, these debates have increasingly become pillars of political campaigns.” The purpose of this walk is to continue the discussion in Saskatoon. We start our walk at the Saskatoon Municipal Cenotaph in the south side of Saskatoon City Hall, on 23rd St. E between 3 and 4th Ave, across from the Frances Morrison Main Library.
