THE "SENTIERO DI SAN GILBERTO"

Cortona, Tuscany, Italy
Est. 11.0km / 3 hrs 40 mins

Named after the so-called “pozzo di San Gilberto” (St. Gilbert’s well) located on the road edge along the strada provinciale in close proximity to the village of Montecchio, the path starts from Monsigliolo, where it merges with the “Sentiero dei Principi” path (the part of it running along the banks of river Esse); from there, the path meanders its way through cultivated fields, spontaneous hedgerows and oak thickets to Manzano, where the superb Passerini and Fierli villas and the Magi estate (now owned by Tenimenti D’Alessandro) with its villa surrounded by a magnificent landscaped garden, are located. From there, the path runs to the wine estate of Capezzine passing through the villages of Borgonovo, Cignano and Centoia.
