Braki is one of the most beautiful places in Ergli civil parish, situated in Vidzeme Upland. This is the birthplace of the Latvian classic writer Rudolfs Blaumanis (1863-1908) who lived and created his works there. Blaumanis was a master of short stories and one of the founders of modern drama in Latvian literature. He has created such outstanding short stories as “Frost in Spring”, “Wader in the Bog”, “In the Shadow of Death”, “Raudups’ Widow”, the plays “Indrani”, “Prodigal Son” and the loveliest Latvian comedy - “Tailor–days in Silmaci”. His creative work is permeated by simplicity, humanity and light humour.          The homestead Braki was first mentioned in historical sources in 1811. Several peasant families had lived there before the writer’s family moved to Braki in 1868. Rudolfs Blaumanis fell in love with this quiet place; he planted trees there and there in the silence and serenity of Braki he created most of his literary pieces of art.The memorial museum Braki was founded on May 10, 1959. All the buildings have been renovated and designed as they were during the writer’s lifetime. The Braki farmstead consists of a complex of 8 buildings: a dwelling house, a store-house for keeping clothes; a threshing barn, a horse stable, a granary, a cattle-barn, a livestock barn and a sauna.Braki trails take you to the Lightening-split Stone, to Edgars’ sculpture, lower well, Nolins’ apple-tree, the Monument Stone, Jankalnins (the hill where Midsummer night was celebrated), the spring of the Bath Ravine.
