On German tracks in Antwerp: the "German Corner"

Antwerp, VLG, Belgium
Est. 3.7km / 1 hr 14 mins

In this walk, we look for traces of the vibrant German community in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Antwerp. We stroll past beautiful residential houses that give a sense of the glory days of German-Antwerp entrepreneurs, decipher peeled-off inscriptions on facades and even peek into police archives. The glory days of the "German Corner" and its inhabitants are over, but its legacy remains clearly visible in the city. We start in the Park Harmonie...Research, text, image selection: Laura Nys und Ine Van linthout (points of interest 1, 4 to 11), Claudia Gaspard und Ine Van linthout (2 and 3)Translations: Isabel Hessel (into German), Vivien Glass (into English)Coordination and final editing: Ine Van linthoutCopyright Tour: dasKULTURforum AntwerpenPartners: This tour was realised with the support of the City of Antwerp and the Goethe Institute Brussels.
