Welcome to the picturesque Valdemārpils! This small town is located in the northeastern part of Kurzeme on the shores of Lake Sasmaka, from which the town originally took its name ‘Sasmaka’. The town was renamed Valdemārpils in honour of the pioneer of the Young Latvians movement, Krišjānis Valdemārs, who was born in the nearby Ārlava parish and studied and worked as a teacher in this town.Valdemārpils is a place where nature meets the urban environment, where the old coexists with the new, and where time seems to disappear during leisurely strolls.
