Welcome to the picturesque Valdemārpils! This small town is located in the northeastern part of Kurzeme on the shores of Lake Sasmaka, from which the town originally took its name ‘Sasmaka’. The town was renamed Valdemārpils in honour of the pioneer of the Young Latvians movement, Krišjānis Valdemārs, who was born in the nearby Ārlava parish and studied and worked as a teacher in this town.Valdemārpils is a place where nature meets the urban environment, where the old coexists with the new, and where time seems to disappear during leisurely strolls. Here, you can enjoy a diverse cultural life or peaceful relaxation by the lake, which is crossed by the only road bridge in Latvia. Embark on exploratory expeditions by boat or paddleboard around the lake, have fun on the well-maintained beach, playing beach volleyball with children or friends. Try your luck at fishing or discover the first ‘Park of the Trees of Happiness’ in Latvia. This is a town that smells of lime tree blossoms in the summer and is proud of its lime tree, known as the ‘Idol Linden’, which is approximately 350–400 years old and is considered one of the widest in the Baltic states. Come and experience the charm of Valdemārpils!
