Meet local craftsmen who know their craft thoroughly and will be proud to tell you about it!In the very Sigulda Castle quartel yard there are several creative workshops, where hammers clatter, fine needles sew and diaries are created that fulfill the planned. Here you can see how Sigulda's legendary symbol - the walking stick - is still made by hands and ancient knowledges.Futher it's suggested for you to drive to Līgatne and visit Vienkoču park. At the Vienkoči Park Woodraft Museum you will learn about the history of woodwork from the Stone Age up to nowadays. The interior of the Woodwork Museum in the Vienkoči Park imitates the interior of an old workshop from the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The workshop is run by skilful woodworkers that create various objects from wood. This is the place where the Vienkoči Park sculptures were carved. The workshop has a woodworking tool collection and you will have the chance to take a look at it and get to know more about the function of each tool. It consists of ancient, unique tools as well as the Sheffield carving tools the quality of which is widely known around the world. After the tour in Vienkoču park let's go futher to Vaidava Ceramics. This is a story about a generations-long love for a place, the things it provides, the craftsmanship, and most importantly, its people. Let us take you on a journey through our pottery. We do everything in-house, by hand. It all starts with the clay that is obtained in a nearby clay-pit. We then prepare the clay by adding water and mixing it. Once our clay is the perfect consistency, it’s ready for shaping. Our artists use the potter's wheel and the process called jiggering to give our products their distinctive design and clean lines. Then it’s time to dry each piece before firing them in a kiln. Our kiln runs on electricity, meaning it takes significantly less time to heat up. When all the pieces are fired at 1000°. Some might say the most tedious step is polishing each piece to achieve our signature texture. We find it therapeutic. All there’s left to do is glaze the inside and seal the final result.
