This part of the botanical garden with North American plants was the first to be founded, in the autumn of 1950.The plants in the North American section of the botanical garden have been grown mainly from seeds obtained through Delectus Seminum exchange. Delectus Seminum is a plant seeds exchange programme and one of the ways to develop a botanical garden's collection. Delectus Seminum offers a free seed catalogue for exchange. However, if you choose to get some seeds for your private garden through this programme, unfortunately, it will not work. Delectus Seminum does not cooperate with individuals and commercial organisations. The catalogue is published and updated annually and sent to botanical gardens across the world. A botanical garden orders seeds they are interested in, for which purpose its specialists fill out a special form – a desiderate (from the Latin desiderata – an object of desire). The ordered seeds come in envelopes by mail. Some of the plants in the collection were brought by Fyodor Nikolaevich Rusanov from the USA as seeds or vegetative parts. Most species in the garden originate from the eastern US states.North America, whose dendroflora is broadly represented in the Tashkent Botanical Garden, is largely characterised by a continental climate. This is why urban plants and artificial forest plantations in Uzbekistan, also with continental climate, are dominated by North American species. In early April, when other parts of the arboretum are covered with foliage and even partly in bloom, the American section remains surprisingly bare. This phenomenon, while making plants less visually attractive, allows them to avoid frosts in late spring.
