This walking tour is dedicated to the life and activities of the great educator and enlightener Ybyrai Altynsarin. A brief biography of Ybyray Altynsarin is presented below. Ybyray Altynsarin - Kazakh teacher-educator, writer, folklorist, public figure, scientist-ethnographer. He was the author of Kazakh textbooks: “Kazakh Chrestomathy” (1879; 2nd ed., 1906) and “Elementary Guide to Teaching Kazakhs the Russian Language” (1879), the author of fables and stories, as well as translations of L. N. Tolstoy and I. A. Krylov.He created variants of the alphabet based on the Russian script for recording Kazakh texts. Ybyrai Altynsarin was born on October 20, 1841 in Arakaragai volost of Nikolayevsky uyezd - now Altynsarin district of Kostanay region.Ybyray was deprived of his father early, and was brought up by his grandfather - the famous bi Balgozha Zhanburshin. In 1850 Balgozha bi determined Ybyrai to the boarding school at the Orenburg border commission. Altynsarin successfully graduated from it in 1857 and for three years worked as a clerk for his grandfather Balgozhi - the manager of the Uzun tribe of the Kypchaks, the army chief of the Orenburg commission.Some time Altynsarin worked as an interpreter in the Orenburg regional board.In 1860, the regional board instructed him to open an elementary school for Kazakh children in the Orenburg fortification (Turgai), where he was appointed teacher of Russian language.Opening a school in a remote town was not easy: there were no funds, no support from the regional board and local authorities. However, the difficulties did not stop Altynsarin. On January 8, 1864 the school was inaugurated. Thus began the educational activities of Altynsarin. Some time Y. Altynsarin worked in the Turgai district administration as a clerk. In 1879, Altynsarin was appointed as an inspector of schools in Turgai province. In this position Y. Altynsarin worked until the end of his life. In 1883 Altynsarin moved to Nikolaev (Kustanay) uyezd. In his native place in Arakaragai volost, three kilometers from Kustanay, on the bend of the Tobol River, where there was a small lake, which later received the name “Inspector”, he built a house, where he lived and worked until his death. Ы. Altynsarin died on July 17, 1889 and was buried according to Kazakh custom with a huge crowd of people not far from his house on the bank of the Tobol River near his father's grave.
