Join us on our epic road trip from Sydney to Broken Hill, a mining town in the far west of NSW, in mid-May 2023. We are a family of three - two adults and a toddler - and this is our son's first holiday. We love to travel and want to share our adventure with you!

Explore NSW’s Outback and Mining Heritage with a Family Road Trip - Cya On The Road

We were driving our 6-year-old hatchback and had planned two different routes for our trip.

On the way to Broken Hill we drove through Gundagai, Griffith and Ivanhoe. The return trip to Sydney took us through Wilcannia, Cobar, Nyngan, Dubbo and Orange.

The total distance of the trip was about 2500 kilometres and we divided it into small sections to keep the daily driving time to 3-4 hours. This way we can keep our little one happy and entertained on the road.

The total cost of this trip was around A$2700 (mid May 2023).

In this app you'll find the details of our 14-day itinerary with all the stops along the way, including lunch stops, refuelling points, accommodation and most importantly, what we did and saw in each city and town.

We are publishing this on the Cya On The Road platform so that anyone who wants to do a similar trip will have a handy and comprehensive guide.

Must-have apps before you go:

Cya On The Road - for one obvious reason - to have a connected travel experience and learn the stories behind each place we visit.

HERE WeGo - for offline navigation, as there will be lots of places without phone coverage, even on Australia's biggest network, Telstra.

Also get a Telstra prepaid SIM card if you don't have one. There will be many places where only Telstra works.

Have fun!
