The history of Cassà de la Selva can only be understood taking into account the cork industry relevance. This economic sector began its activity in Cassà in the 18th century. Along the urban trail called ‘Ruta del suro’ (Cork trail) you will discover the main town landmarks related to the working-class, the modernist houses constructed by cork factories or forest owners.
Cork industry is still relevant in Cassà de la Selva. At the beginning of the XXI century there were more than 500 workers in this economic sector and around 40 cork businesses, some of them with the most important production of the world.
