The San Antonio River Walk

San Antonio, TX, United States
Est. 8.0km / 3 hrs 30 mins / Map

Welcome to this tour of San Antonio, the heart of Texas, presented by Insight Guides. My name is Katherine and I’ll be your guide. This tour takes approximately three and a half hours to complete, not including any time spent touring museums or any buildings. You can stop at any time and start again at the same spot later. You can follow the route on your phone or simply listen as I guide you from one sight to the next. I’ll be giving you clear directions and the audio will automatically start playing when you get close to the next sight on the tour. Don’t worry if you need to skip a sight as the tour will pick up at the next location. One more thing before we get started – always be aware of your surroundings and be sure to obey all traffic signals.

The San Antonio River Walk - Cya On The Road

The heart of San Antonio lies in the middle of its 21st-century downtown. There, one piece of 18th-century architecture reigns supreme. It is not the tallest or the largest. Not even the grandest, but it is unquestionably San Antonio’s crowning jewel. The Alamo! But there is so much more to San Antonio than this one great monument.

San Antonio is a unique blend of cultures, Spanish, Mexican, Native American, German and American. It was under many flags, Spain; France; Mexico; the Republic of Texas; the Confederate States of America and the United States. The food, the architecture and the history are reflections of these people who lived and died to make San Antonio what it is today.

The city is way too big to cover all its attractions in one tour. This tour will take you to the highlights of the downtown area, via the River Walk, and a little outside it. I’ll try to touch on what makes San Antonio unique and bypass the attractions that may be fun but exist everywhere with slight variations. So if you are looking for the real San Antonio, this is it. So what are you waiting for? Let's go!

Please note: stops 1 - 3 are done by river taxi, at a cost of roughly $10, and therefore are optional. If you do not wish to catch the river taxi, please begin the tour at stop 3 (Travis Park).
