Vienna is a city with one of the grandest histories in Europe. Nowadays Austria may be a relatively small country – but before 1918 it was at the heart of a huge empire covering modern day Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and most of the Balkan countries which used to make up Yugoslavia. It had a population above sixty million. This walk will take us around the Hofburg Palace and the main buildings near it. Inside you’ll find incredible treasures – the Silver Room is just one of them – but we’ll mainly skirt around the outside of the vast and sprawling Hofburg complex.
