You are in the Desert Museum or also called The Command of the Achiras Fort, It is part of an Archaeological record of a unique cultural value, which tells on its walls the history of the southern border to the southwest of the Province of Córdoba.With the arrival of the colonizers or Spaniards in the conquest of the lands, the problems of the indigenous people when defending their lands were triggered (the Comechingones Indians were quite passive). From these events the Indians had to flee and take refuge in the mountains, but when they found themselves with little subsistence they began to loot or assault the town for food. Faced with the constant attacks and assaults by the indigenous people on the town, they were forced to request a fortification in 1830 from Colonel Francisco Reinafé.Therefore, El Fuerte de Achiras was founded in 1832. It was not an authentic fortification, but it had barracks, soldiers, weapons, civil religious buildings (Chapel), homes, walls and moats suitable to protect the town from the advance of the Indians. This fort was rebuilt at least three times by the strong advance of the Indians.This conflict ended in 1869, since Lucio Mansilla, by order of the Ministry of War, ended up resolving the uprising of the fort and the evacuation of the Indians to continue the advance of the border towards the Rio Quinto and then to Las Pampas.With the lifting of the fort, this building remains standing, with a thatched roof, a dirt floor, its walls made of adobone, which is earth rammed with straw, 80 cm wide. In 1928 it was a family home and as time went by, outbuildings were added and its walls were covered with plaster and paint, until 1997 when it was donated so that its history could be protected. After having reconditioned it, giving the necessary distribution so that its rooms can be visited and its story told. Thus, in 2000 it was inaugurated as the Desert Museum.
