Geelong's Wool Industry then & now; Its impact on Geelong's built heritage

Geelong is one of Australia’s largest noncapital cities within which the wool industry has been woven directly into the fabric of the city. This tour will examine a number of culturally significant buildings within the Geelong region and their origins inside the wool industry that saw Geelong explode from a little village to a booming seaport and the 'wool centre of the world’. This rags-to-riches tale comes to an end in the mid-twentieth century, however, and this tour will also examine how the culturally significant buildings are adjusting to Geelong’s new position as an emerging health, education and advanced manufacturing hub as a result of the downturn of the wool industry worldwide.
