The Guildford Hotel, an iconic heritage site at the heart of a historical town in Perth Western Australia has undergone a significant transformation over the last 130 years.This State Heritage Listed building is the topic of our discussion today, as we explore the evolution of the building and the importance of conservation in the wake of destruction.The hotel has been an important focus for community engagement and social activity, a role it continues to play today. It is this very contribution to the sense of place for the Guildford community that encouraged its rebirth in recent years after a tragic event left the site a mere shell of its previous existence.Today, we are not doing a regular tour of the area, though I do encourage you to explore the town and all that it has to offer, instead, we explore the need for conservation and preservation of a heritage building.
