This tour explores the exhibition ‘Encounters: Revealing Stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Objects from the British Museum’ that was on display at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra from late 2015 to early 2016. This virtual tour focuses on several key objects displayed in the exhibition, acquired by the British Museum from the early colonial era. The tour will pay particular attention to the heritage significance of these objects, and how they are linked to the identities of the communities they come from and to the world, as well as critically examining the social, cultural, individual and political connotations that the objects represent. I would like to acknowledge that I am undertaking research for this presentation on nipaluna Country. I pay my respects to muwinina Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge that Aboriginal sovereignty has not been ceded.
