Buisson-Rond castle & park - Cya On The Road

Buisson-Rond Estate, aka "de Boigne Estate" is one of the large, old aristocratic properties surrounding Chambéry. These surroundings used to be much more wet in the past: people could still drown into a real lake in the city suburbs, at the turn of the 17th Century... Buisson-Rond featured 3 water mills along the Albanne, small river flowing from Challes. The estate is famous for having been purchased in 1802 by the Earl-General de Boigne, a local born venturer gone to India and whose heirs were still spending every summer here until 1971, when the property was transferred to Chambéry Municipality. Castle is not open to public visits, but serves for Saturday's weddings registrations (and purposeful photographs in a superb decor). The land shrinked in the past decades, as new buildings, schools, public pool & ice rink, tennis courts,... mushroomed all around the edges. A rose garden was recently arranged in a part of the 22 hectares park.Gardens follow the french classic array near the castle and a typical 19th century's british 'free' style all over the rest. Upper limit is the old, antique roman way from Lemencum (Chambéry) to Cularo (Grenoble) and this part offers superb vistas on the entire valley. You will also discover there an interesting artefact dating back to the prehistoric ages.
