Pergine Valsugana - Bassano del Grappa - Cya On The Road

The Valsugana cycle path is a simple route that winds its way along the Caldonazzo lake, continues along the Brenta river and reaches Bassano del Grappa, connecting Trentino and Veneto in a pleasant ride. You would hardly say you are in Italy, the path of this cycle path is uncontaminated and surrounded by greenery: among woods, meadows, fields and orchards, accompanied by the sound of water and the calls of birds that are easy to observe in these areas, the Valsugana route crosses villages and small villages rich in history and fascinating in their simplicity. The landscape is very varied and passes from narrow and shady gorges to airy areas full of colors in the midst of many apple trees: spring is certainly the best time to travel this cycle route, even if in summer nobody gets angry if you pick some long apples the street. The cycle path starts from Lake Caldonazzo, precisely from the municipality of Pergine Valsugana and continues on the urban road to the center of Borgo Valsugana. In Borgo Valsugana the well-marked cycle path starts again and continues up to Primolano. From the Municipality of Arsiè to Cismon del Grappa you will come across a new cycle path, while from there to Bassano del Grappa continue on a secondary road shared with cars, but still very quiet and which crosses the small internal villages.Almost all of the cycle path is therefore on asphalt road: a real cycle path, completely flat, slightly sloping in the direction from the lake to Bassano, in excellent condition and very well-kept, perfect for traveling with family with children. The route is about 80 km long and along the way there are numerous refreshment and rest points, bicigrill, equipped flower beds and fountains. It is possible to use the train for the return journey, but be careful especially in summer and holidays because, even if equipped, the wagons for transporting bicycles are limited and have a maximum capacity of 32-38 bikes, therefore there is the risk of having to wait for a subsequent ride or even get back on the bike. The life of the river is very varied and, if you are lucky, you may see some aquatic birds resting among the vegetation of the Brenta. Before continuing east I recommend a stop at the Bicigrill Big fish of Levico, the first but not the last one you will meet along the cycle path. The reality of bicigrill that has spread throughout Italy was born in Trentino and more precisely on the Adige cycle path: these small refreshment facilities arise on bicycle paths and in addition to offering food and drinks, they support the cyclist in the event of punctures or other mechanical problems. Each bicigrill is organized independently and in recent years has become a true reference point and meeting place also for local cyclists. The Valsugana cycle path can be traveled all year round, but in winter certain sections may be snowy or even frozen and therefore there is a risk of slipping. However, being in a valley, the Valsugana cycle path is not always heated by the sun and in the cold season the rays filter for only a few hours. Our advice is to follow it starting from April, May or June, based on the temperatures. In the middle of summer, July and August, it is more crowded and, on certain days, the temperatures are really high and pedaling is really tiring. If you have the chance, wait for the end of August or September to travel it with sunny, warm but not suffocating days and above all to be able to discover it in peace. If you want to travel the Valsugana cycle path, there is also the possibility of renting the bicycle at the beginning of the track and returning it to one of the numerous rental points available to users along the route. The bike is the best way to discover the rich territory of Valsugana, among its woods, its apples and the city villages.
