Moscow of Varlam Shalamov
On this walk we will enter the world of a writer through the prism of the city. We will explore the Moscow of Varlam Shalamov—the famous Russian writer and poet, and a man with a tragic fate. Shalamov was born in 1907, and his youth and adult years fell during the Stalinist period when millions of Soviet citizens were subjected to repressions. Shalamov spent a quarter of his life in exile and in labor camps, first in the Ural Mountains, and then in Kolyma (a region in far northeastern Siberia). But he always returned to Moscow.
