The city was part of an old Great Abatis Border meant to protect the principality of Moscow from Tatar raids.Tula is known not only in Russia itself as a weapon capital, but also as the birthplace of the Russian gingerbread, samovar, and accordion. But the main treasure of this city is local craftsmen, who handed down their secrets from generation to generation.Modern Tula is a large industrial center with a population of about half a million people.
