IntroductionLarge streets and avenues cross the center of Rostov-on-Don: Kirovsky Avenue, Voroshilovsky Avenue, Sokolov Avenue, Maxim Gorky Street, Krasnoarmeyskaya Street and Budennovsky Avenue, which we will walk along today.Budennovsky, former Taganrog Avenue is one of the oldest streets of Rostov. The avenue got its present-day name in 1923 nineteen-twenty three, in honor of Semyon Budyonny, a hero of the Russian Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, Marshall of the Soviet Union, who hailed from the Don region. The avenue was formerly called Taganrog Avenue, as it opened a horse road track leading to Taganrog. It started from the bank of the River Don and was marked in the second town plan of 1767. Taganrog Avenue was very important in town planning pattern, it was always one of the liveliest streets of old-time Rostov, and it remains very busy today.
