There's More to Morden: Heritage Trail 4 - Cya On The Road

This trail has been produced as part of "There's More to Morden," a Neighbourhood Fund project designed by Merton Heritage Service to engage people with over 100 years of local heritage.Working with volunteers and community partners, we are creating displays in local shops and parks, web resources and guided walks to raise awareness of Morden's unique history. Before 1926 Morden chiefly comprised open fields and farmland, with a few cottages. Members of the gentry and wealthy businessmen built fine country homes near St. Lawrence Church (the original heart of the village) and the picturesque river Wandle. This trail reveals more about the people, places and events that have transformed Morden from a quiet rural community to a thriving urban district. To start the tour please head to forecourt in front of Merton Civic Centre (on the island between London Road and Crown Lane. Car parking is available in the station car park off York Close. If you are on foot, the Civic Centre is a short walk from Morden Tube station, bus garage and also Morden Road Tram Stop.
