Desenzano del Garda ENG

Desenzano del Garda is a small but very ancient town full of history and Italian charm.Walking along the narrow crooked streets of the Old Town you will find the traces of ancient people, Roman patricians and Venetian merchants.Ancient buildings and squares and the impressive Castle on the hill will tell you many intriguing stories that they have witnessed for over 2000 years. The name Desenzano is supposed to derive from the Latin personal name Decentius, the presumed owner of the ancient villa of the 4th century which remains can be still visited in the archeological museum "Villa Romana" in Desenzano.There is also a more popular version of the origin of this name. Since the old town is located along the slope of the hill, the name can be referred to the word «descent» which means "running down the hill".
