Opened in 1953 Maastricht Heliport on the Griend ran a daily helicopter service to cities such as Brussels, Cologne and Liege. In 1957 a second landing platform was constructed. Sabena flew with Sikorsky S-58C helicopters which could take up to 8 passengers and 2 pilots. The Sabena service stopped operations in February 1967.
