Itinerary that takes you through the centuries. You will discover the places and some of the characters who have left their mark on the city. Plaques complete this route at each point of interest (on the walls of buildings or posts). The history of Jouy-en-Josas is known in a precise way from the 9th century thanks to the writings of the monks of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.The church was built in the 12th century. The village then had between 400 and 500 inhabitants. But the plague and the Hundred Years' War ravaged the region and only 3 to 4 fires (families) remained. The rural village endured. In 1760, it was a village of 400 Catholic souls in the Seigneurie of the Marquis de Beuvron that Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf discovered. The latter decided to settle there and build the very famous Manufacture de Toiles Peintes that the whole world now knows under the name of Manufacture de Toiles de Jouy. The city also saw, during its history, famous people such as Victor Hugo and Léon Blum, stay or even live in the small town.
