Accessible Audio Guide Through Kuldiga Along the Forest Trail
Welcome to the Forest Trail, part of the European long-distance hiking route E11. This trail passes through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in the Baltic States. Along the way, you'll find UNESCO World Heritage Sites of European significance, including Riga, Tallinn, Kaunas, and Kuldīga.This audio guide explores a segment of the 92nd section of the Forest Trail, guiding you through the charming town of Kuldīga. We'll highlight the most attractive cultural heritage sites and the stunning natural scenery along the banks of the Venta Valley. You can conveniently start your journey at the Observation Tower, where you'll find nearby parking spots. From there, continue towards the Kuldīga bypass road to the end of Plostu Street. The total length of this route in Kuldīga is approximately 3.5 km one way.The content of the audio guide and the route were created in collaboration with the Riga Association of the Visually Impaired and Blind, and are intended for people with visual impairments. The route has no steep inclines or stairs. It mainly follows pedestrian pavements and a walking path along the River Venta, where there are gentle rises and falls. The surface of the route features both modern and historical cobblestones in various places. The modern cobblestones are smoother compared to the historical ones. The walking path along the Venta is covered with fine, hard gravel for its entire 2.4 km length, making it easy to navigate. The entire route can be completed by a person with a guide dog or two people walking side by side. The route requires crossing a road and the connection between a car park and the road. In some places, there are small kerb thresholds. The route can be used all year round, except when there is snow and ice, as some areas may become slippery. It is advisable for someone to meet you with a vehicle at the end of the route, otherwise, you will need to return either the same way or by another route to the starting point or Kuldīga town centre. Allow one and a half to two hours for a leisurely walk in one direction. Food, toilets, and other services are available in the first third of the route, where you can also buy drinking water for yourself and your guide dog. No services are available along the remaining two-thirds of the route. How to use the audio guide?First, download the izi.Travel app onto your smartphone.
