A walk along the Uralsky Arbat
A walk along the Uralsky Arbat Let's start, perhaps, with a little information about this street. Its length is about 1.5 kilometers, the pedestrian part is 970 meters. From Anton Valek Street to Kuibyshev Street. Before the revolution the street was called Uspenskaya Street, because from it you could perfectly see the Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God in the Novo-Tikhvin Monastery. By the way, about the old name reminds the shopping center "Uspensky".The street, as before, has retained its commercial character. Several shopping centers, a large number of stores and cafes are located on it.An interesting feature of this pedestrian street, is the presence of intersecting streets with traffic and underground crosswalks. On Weiner Street there are several interesting sculptures, which are gladly studied by children. And of course, you can take a picture next to them. Here in 1735 instead of the usual stores there was a fortress wall and the Akulinka River ran. But the city grew, soon the wall was pushed back, the river was filled in. And on this place a street was formed. The area here remained swampy, and therefore 200 years ago frogs sang here, not street musicians. Hence the first name of the street - Lyagushachya. Uspenskaya Street was called in honor of the Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God in the Novo-Tikhvin Convent, which was to be built in the future of the street.Uspenskaya Street received its modern name in 1919. The house of merchant Telegin (today's address is 14 Vainera) once housed the famous insurance company "Russia", where revolutionary and Bolshevik Leonid Vainer worked.
