The Sophia Cathedral is the historical center of the city of Almaty, the very heart of theold city of Verny, or, in other words, Bolshaya Almatinskaya Stanitsa. In modern times, the revivedwomen's monastery has been established here, bearing the name in honor of the Iveron Icon of theMother of God and Saint Seraphim of Sarov. This monastery was originally formed in the city ofVerny even before the revolutionary events. However, due to the outbreak of the storm of godlesspersecution, the monastic community did not exist for long.During the years of atheistic dominance, the Iveron-Seraphim Monastery wasdesecrated and completely destroyed.
