Two historical events of the Semirechye region, which coincided in time with thecommemorative days of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, served as the reason for theconsecration of the Malostanichny Church in Her honor and memory: the founding of the Alma-Atastanitsa on July 8, 1853, and the expulsion of the Kokandians from the region on October 22, 1860.The cathedral survived two destructive Verny earthquakes (1887 – magnitude of 10,1910 – magnitude of 9), several significant reconstructions, and years of persecution against theChristian faith.
