Nature Walk through the Singelpark in LeidenWelcome to the Singelpark in LeidenSurrounding the historic city center of Leiden lies a continuous moat, it was established in 1659, and stretches over six kilometers. Residents of Leiden took the initiative to transform this unique piece of cultural heritage into the longest, most beautiful, and most exciting city park in the Netherlands: The Singelpark.If you’d like to contribute, consider joining the Friends of the Singelpark group.During this walk, you’ll encounter an already impressive variety of trees, shrubs, and plants in the Singelpark. And if it’s up to the Friends of the Singelpark, that diversity will only grow.Some of the plants and trees mentioned in this route may not always be visible. It might be out of season; the area may have been mowed, redesigned, or the specific plants may not have sprouted or may have withered.You’ll find trees marked with information signs. These trees form an arboretum, a collection of unusual trees. You can follow this Arboretum Route separately if you wish.You’ll also notice that at the start and end of each park section, there are stylized "gates" and signs with information about that part of the Singelpark.The numbering starts on the bridge over the Rijnsburgersingel, near the Museum of Ethnology, but you can start the walk anywhere you like, even where you left off last time if appropriate.
