Hello, my name is Lika, and this is my tour of the most interesting monuments in Podgorica. Our first step will be Millennium Bridge (Most Milenijum)The Millennium Bridge is one of the most famous architectural symbols of Podgorica. It is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses the MoraÄa River and connects the city center with its newer districts. The idea for the bridge appeared in the early 2000s, when Podgorica was rapidly expanding and the older bridges could no longer handle the increasing traffic. The project was designed by the Slovenian company Ponting Bridges and Professor Mladen UliÄeviÄ from Podgorica. The construction was carried out by the Slovenian company Primorje. The bridge was opened on July 13, 2005, on Montenegro’s Statehood Day — a national holiday marking the country’s international recognition at the Berlin Congress in 1878.interesting factsthe length of the bridge is about 173 meters;the central pylon is 57 meters high;it has two-way traffic lanes and pedestrian walkways on both sides. The Millennium Bridge quickly became not only an important transportation hub but also a landmark of Podgorica — a symbol of the modern city that connects the old center with new residential areas.Next point is Moskovski Most (Moscow Bridge)The Moscow Bridge is a pedestrian bridge over the MoraÄa River, located near the Millennium Bridge. It was a gift from the city of Moscow to the residents of Podgorica as a sign of friendship between Russia and Montenegro. The bridge, about 105 meters long, was officially opened on December 19, 2008, in a ceremony attended by the President of Montenegro and a delegation from Moscow. The bridge has a metal structure. It connects HercegovaÄka Street with the riverside promenade along the MoraÄa River, where monuments and walking areas are located. The bridge is often used as a convenient pedestrian connection between the city center, the riverside, and the park area, and it is also part of popular walking routes along the river. Now we go to Monument to Ivan CrnojeviÄThe monument to Ivan CrnojeviÄ is located in a park next to the “Slobodan ŠkeroviÄ” Gymnasium in Podgorica.Ivan CrnojeviÄ was one of the most important rulers in the history of Montenegro. He was the lord (ruler) of Zeta from 1465 to 1490 and is considered the founder of Cetinje, the capital of the medieval state.Although CrnojeviÄ ruled for only about 25 years, his name became a symbol of the struggle for freedom, statehood, and cultural development. Under his leadership, independence from the Ottoman Empire was strengthened, a new capital — Cetinje — was established, and the foundations of legal and cultural institutions of the future Montenegrin state were laid. The monument is made of bronze by sculptor Mita ŽivkoviÄ and was unveiled in December 2019. During the opening ceremony, city officials emphasized the importance of CrnojeviÄ for Montenegro’s historical memory and national identity. One of unexpectedplaces is Monument to Vladimir VysotskyThe monument to Vladimir Vysotsky is located on the bank of the MoraÄa River, between the Moscow Bridge and the Millennium Bridge.Vladimir Semyonovich Vysotsky was a famous Soviet poet, singer, actor, and songwriter. He visited Podgorica in the 1970s while working on a television film in Titograd (as the city was called at that time).Vysotsky grew fond of Montenegro and dedicated a poem called “To the Montenegrins” to the country, expressing his affection for its people. Because of this sincere connection, the monument was erected in Podgorica — it is the only monument to Vysotsky outside the former USSR.The statue shows Vysotsky with a guitar over his shoulder, representing him as a bard whose music and poetry spoke about life, pain, love, and hope. The monument was unveiled in October 2004, and its presence highlights the cultural connection between Montenegro and the Russian-speaking world. And the last point - Monument to Alexander Pushkin and Natalia GoncharovaThis monument is located at the corner of Njegoševa Street near the Blažo JovanoviÄ Bridge. It depicts the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin reading poetry to his wife, Natalia Goncharova. It is not only a work of art but also a symbol of friendship between Russia and Montenegro. The monument was a gift from Moscow to Podgorica and was unveiled in 2002. It reminds visitors of the importance of cultural and literary connections between nations and emphasizes respect for Pushkin as one of the greatest poets in the world. So, its my tour in Podgorica.
